» Prompt 1
Identify a new (recent/emerging) form of technology or culture, particularly one we’ve not examined in class. Discuss in terms of technological, cultural, social developments as well as the intersection — especially concerning identity experience & expression
(and perhaps institutions, roles, discourse/writing about, changing understandings, etc.).
It might be helpful to first consider network rhetoric (unit/project 1) and participatory culture (unit/project 2), to recognize impacts and implications of recent developments…
not only communication and identity formation, but cultural forms and social experience as well: one goal of this course is to both study and employ the technological transitions and new logic familiar to us in network society toward productive ends
→ review Course Overview (Syllabus)
*Be sure to conclude with a prediction/projection or proposal, applying thoughtful consideration and critical perspective, regarding at least one (if not more) of our main topics/questions.

» Prompt 2
Recall the optional exercise “Identity Interface” as well as key topics and learning materials of Unit 3 (especially Rettberg readings and Exercise 4):
discuss the ScreenSelfPortrait as potentially addressing this inquiry/challenge, as a virtual collage-image “to think with” — for greater self-awareness or self-representation, especially in our current conditions of Dataism and quantification trends.
Speculate the potential benefits, uses, application, effects, etc. for anyone (beyond students in this class), concerning digital identity and mediated experience. (And although helpful to review your Poetics and Reflection, avoid repeating points from these; instead, extrapolate to broader context, perhaps identifying within or outside educational settings…)
you might consider and address any factors concerning technology (devices, interfaces, databases); networks (social, technological, institutional); media ecology (types of media) and culture (contemporary or past, real or fictional); social conventions, especially with network platforms, groups/affiliations, communication, and self-understanding (self-construction?)
*Conclude by speculating what might change consequently, if self-reflexive knowledge (and/or deliberate self-construction) were to “scale” or “go viral” in network society — as a form intersecting technology, culture, and identity.

**Note: optionally, you can compose responses to both prompts —
with extra entry counting as bonus blog credit –or– exercise extra-credit points (assessed with normal rubric).
In either case, please identify in title of both posts.
